Sculpted Appetite

A Chromakopic Experience

Tyler, the Creator self-reflects on tour embracing maturity, growth, and acceptance.

As a fan, I’d admit to being partially biased when I say the performance that Tyler puts on can’t be missed. Starting with his most recent project, Chromakopia, the new album shows Tyler’s growth as a person while creating flows and tempos that other artists struggle to replicate. The album is raw and original with dives into his history as a kid to a rising star in OFWGKTA. I’d argue that the album isn’t made to generate new fans compared to his past projects, but once you understand the themes of his past storytelling skills, you’ll likely appreciate how Chromakopia feels like a culmination of all his work.

For his tour, Tyler brings Chromakopia to life, carrying the green theme to the stage. I examined some concepts of color theory, which points out how green can be seen as a signal for success and growth, fitting with where he is at in his work. Openers: Paris Texas & Lil Yachty brought the energy beforehand, elevating the anticipation for the chaos that would unfold once Tyler came on. The pits were massive, but considering the elements of the sounds in that arena, there would be no other way to experience the show. Did I cut open my knee? Yes. Was it worth it? Since I didn’t feel anything, yes. Although there may be a scar lol.

Anyways, once Tyler came on, the crowd screamed like crazy, and rightfully so, it’s the big man himself. From beginning to end, he captivated me and the crowd with his stage presence, providing a more elevated experience that other rappers often can’t provide. From stage design to lighting, the show was intentional, and it consistently hit the mark. I’ll admit I may have even cried once or twice once Igor played. Every era that Tyler creates elicits various emotions that connect with fans within their life. From anger, heartbreak, adventure, and more, there’s a song for any type of mood. It was evident that while Tyler was performing Chromakopia live, every word spoken was done with emotion, not just from his tone but his many facial emotions. I could sense the pain, confusion, and pride that he felt as he sang and rapped about identity, pregnancy, romantic interests, and so much more.

Once the show reached its climax, I was left in awe but remarkably feeling satisfied. I feel like some concerts leave fans wanting more songs, but the selection and variety that was chosen was more than enough to make fans appreciate Tyler’s discography. I moshed my heart out, and it was well worth it. If you’re a casual or die-hard fan, this is a show that’s well worth its admission cost and shouldn’t be missed. Tyler simply ate.
